La Vida... Es un Ratico
Release Date: 2007-10-23
Sales rank: 4544
La Vida...Es un Ratico (Life is a moment) is the follow up to Juanes' globally multi-platinum release Mi Sangre. In La Vida...Es un Ratico, Juanes once again teams up with co-producer Gustavo Santaolalla, Double-Oscar/Grammy winner. In his first single "Me Enamora," Juanes shows us his intimate personal thoughts on love and relationships. In songs like "Minas Piedras" and Bandera de Manos" he tackles themes of both the hope for peace and social change. With this release, Juanes works to continue to perfect his distinctive fusion of rock with traditional Colombian rhythms and other international styles. Juanes Photos More from Juanes La Vida...Es un Ratico CD/DVD Limited Edition | Mi Sangre | Mi Sangre Limited Deluxe Edition | Un Dia Normal | Fijate Bien | El Diario de Juanes (DVD) | The career of this singer/songwriter has made huge strides in the last five years, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Colombian singer’s style has become unique. If this were his first CD, Juanes could be labeled as genial, because no sound can even get close to what we hear here. But this is his fourth album, and it sounds exactly as the previous ones. Produced by Gustavo Santaolalla, La vida has a fantastic sound and an impeccable production. Yet originality is not precisely its mark. --Ernesto Sánchez (People en Español ) |

MTV Unplugged
Release Date: 2008-06-17
Sales rank: 11362
On March 6th, Julieta Venegas recorded her MTV Unplugged at the Churubusco Studies in Mexico City, where she presented new songs besides interpreting some of her greatest hits in an intimate atmosphere to a live audience. This production counts on important and interesting collaborations like two time Oscar winner, Gustavo Santaolalla, who accompanied her with the banjo and sang the chorus of the song "Algun Dia (Someday)". Brazilian singer, Marisa Monte featured in song "Illusion", a new and beautiful song that combines the Spanish and Portuguese language. Also Mala Rodriguez joined Julieta and included a strong hip hop movement to the song "Eres Para Mi (You are for Me)", whereas the vocalist of Porter, Juan Carlos had a unique participation in "Algun Dia (Someday)". In addition, the very talented Natalia Lafourcade comprised of the orchestra and played several instruments during the night, whereas the talented musician and composer, Jacques Morelenbaum accompanied Julieta on the cello in "De mis Pasos (From my foot steps)".People en Español There’s no doubt that Julieta Venegas is talented in the recording studio. Three great albums have proved her originality (Aquí,, Bueninvento, Sí) and the demand for her music (Limón y Sal sold a million copies). But on stage, Venegas doesn’t exude much energy or passion, so making a live album was risky for her career. On the other hand, like Alanis Morissette, Venegas was born to sing in small and intimate acoustic concert venues, and away from the masses, she knows how to create the magic one can find in her albums. On MTV Unpluggged, Venegas invites performers like Natalia Lafourcade, La Mala Rodríguez, Marisa Monte, and Juan Son to recreate new versions of her greatest hits that result in fresh and exciting collaborations. It’s a great musical montage of her practically perfect career. --Ernesto Sánchez (People en Español ) |

Unfortunately, that’s just not enough these days, as musicians with great voices vie for a spot in the music marketplace by create original work and new sounds that supersede even old veteran singers. In his most recent album, Luismi leans on the same musical elements he’s used for the past 20 years: an orchestra, a horn section, and boleros round up a collection of 12 boring tracks written by Manuel Alejandro. If you can stay awake while listening to the disc, more power to you. Luis Miguel has the talent and potential to be as exciting as Michael Bublé or Josh Groban, but he settles for Michael Bolton. --Ernesto Sánchez (People en Español ) |

Putumayo Presents: Latin Lounge
Release Date: 2005-09-06
Sales rank: 4256
A remarkable revolution is taking place in Latin music these days, as electronica and remixing meet the more traditional rhythms of Argentinean tango, Afro-Cuban son, Brazilian bossa nova and Colombian cumbia. On Putumayo’s new collection, Latin Lounge artists such as Sidestepper, Si*Sé, Charanga Cakewalk and others prove that there can be a magical blend of modern musical trends and traditional Latin styles. While Latin Lounge features several internationally known artists, it also highlights discoveries such as Bebe, a singer-songwriter whose recent collaboration with electronica DJ Carl Jean has made her a star in her native Spain. Another rising star is the Spanish band Amparanoia, a leading band in the mestizo (mixed) movement, so-called for its boundary-crossing blend of flamenco, Afro-Cuban music, hip-hop, electronica and other influences. Latin Lounge is the latest in a series of successful Putumayo releases focusing on exciting new directions in down tempo electronica and world music that includes the collections World Lounge, Euro Lounge and Sahara Lounge. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to Oxfam America in support of their development efforts in South America. |

Mediocre
Release Date: 2008-07-15
Sales rank: 5766
After a lengthy career in film and television, the Mexican actress and singer, Ximena Sariñana, finally releases her first studio album titled Mediocre. This young lady has art coursing through her veins, with a famous Mexican movie director for a father (Fernando Sariñana). Furthermore, her aunts, Angelica Rivera and Veronica Castro, are both actresses, and her uncle Jose Alberto Castro is a producer. The album consists of 12 tracks that fuse rhythms such as jazz, pop, rock and funk. Produced by Tweety Gonzalez (Soda Stereo), Juan Campodonico (Bajo Fondo, Jorge Drexler), and Mood-Fu, Mediocre is an honest album that lacks pretention and makes evident Ximena's incredible musical talent. The first single, "Vidas Paralelas," quickly reached top popularity within just a few weeks of hitting radio in Mexico. The video for this single was recorded in Iceland, under the direction of Pablo Davila (Motel, Los Dynamite). Ximena Sariñana Photo The 22-year-old daughter of cinephile Fernando Sariñana—who composed songs for film and also cast his little girl in some of his own projects—presents one of the most promising Latin Music albums of the year. Her voice may be reminiscent of Natalia Lafourcade, but her musical style is more intense and dramatic, with more of a jazzy influence ("Reforma"), and reminiscent of Regina Spektor ("La Tina," "Vidas paralelas"). --Ernesto Sánchez (People en Español ) |
