Using KDE? Try "kstart --maximize <application>"To do what you want you'd need to query the window tree (for a cli tool: "xwininfo -root -tree") and check the toplevel windows for _NET_WM_PID (you can use xprop for this purpose) and then set the window maximized (wmctrl) by its WId
