X11 server started beeping (as in Unix bell) after libs update | |

I'm a little puzzled by this. I have two hosts where `xbiff -volume 0` stopped working, it beeps. In both cases after updating Debian. Google Chrome also started beeping when e.g. hitting backspace to often, so something about the server side environment changed. However, the puzzling part is this: - the xbiff is remote (ssh login and X11 passthrough) and didn't change - it is not the update to the X11 server that changed behavior One of these machines doesn't use the X11 server from the update, I use a static version (7.1.1). The other host uses the Debian-installed version X.Org X Server 1.7.7. Yet both of these started having a remote `xbiff -volume 0` start beeping. I think it must be somewhere in the X11 libs. Before I go on a crusade to unpuzzle, does this sound familiar to anyone?
