Binary vs source on alpha

Hello.

I am having difficulties using a compiled source version of your 4.6.0
release as it locks up my Noritake Primo Alpha machine, AlphaServer 800
5/500 to be precise.

The odd thing is that your pre-compiled binaries for alpha work just
fine.

Can you please explain the compilation setup and gcc flags you use
for them?

I might help me tremendously in getting a stable custom compilation.
Currently using gcc 3.4.6 and glibc 2.3.5.
