Sync out of Range

I installed OpenSUSE 10 on an older AMD machine with a TNT video card.  
The install went great, but when the xserver started my monitor, Samsung 
700d, reports "Sync out of Sync" message.  Any one have an idea how to 
get the xserver to start and not get the error?  Also looking for a 
information resource for Troubleshooting.
