Address resolution's no problem - checked with IPv6 removed completely.
'Dig'ing forward/reverse OK.

Done checking, rechecking of script and corrected a couple of problems
so upgrade / downgrade works quite ok.

Checked for perms on auth-files, checked completeness of installation
WRT to staged install of X-binary. No clue. Willing to bet the problem's
with X-4.4.0 and gnome-1.4. combo. On i386, Gnome-appds load slow, but
quite a few of them crash on Sun-Ultra5.

Seems like the delay occurs only with apps. that are 'session-aware'.
Gtk-apps load in a flash. Gnome-Control-Center is the most irritating.
Font=servers OK - local and remote.

Any suggestion whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.
