This card is not supported by the XFree86 4.x SiS driver (as you 
probably already found out).

Perhaps XFree86 3.3 supports this card natively.

The vesa driver uses the card's BIOS for mode setup. If the colors are 
bad with this driver, this is as good as it gets.
