Regards. The reason of this email is to ask for help on finding / gathering the documentation, official or unofficial, that corresponds to the video cards supported or to be supported. This year 2005 I have been looking for all sorts of documentation for the different hardware components and peripherals, but I have only been able to find programming information for the most basic hardware, as well as very few hardware components such as Sound Blaster programming and the programming of the Realtek 8139 Ethernet series. I have also been able to find the vgadoc4b.zip archive in the Programmers Heaven website, but it seems to refer to "outdated" video cards, and there is no information on video cards such as SiS 305 (I mean, modern video cards). Also, it seems to me that this information is somehow incomplete in the vgadoc4b.zip. So I have decided to begin a sort of hardware documentation project, which will be available to the public, and I will include all kind of useful hardware related information and documentation. All of this is because I have realized that a vital amount of the Linux programming, inside as well as outside kernel programming has to do a lot with the documentantion of the different hardware components, and that it would be much easier to understand if all this hardware information were easily available. I am convinced that such resource would attract many new programmers for Linux or the other *N*X-like operating systems. I want to contribute by maintaining an ordered, consistent and as complete as possible website that contains this information, and eventually pointing to other websites with more information, as well as developing code snippets and explaining how it has been programmed for *N*X to show the way of programming the hardware components. I am offering as much time and efforts as possible from me to maintain this project, but also I need help finding the documentation. What I need is to be told the following: - Where to find the actual data sheets and any sort of documentation that constitutes a programmer's reference to the different video cards (I have already tried filetype:pdf in Google with no significant results, and also have tried eMule and BitTorrent with poor results). - If you can send the documents by email, or any other way so that this kind of vital information can be easily available and that can also be organized by me and / or others. - If possible, the official, original VGA documentation. I will of course keep trying to find that information, but surely I will always need this help. _______________________________________________ Forum mailing list Forum@xxxxxxxxxxx http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/forum
