Problems with mga G450 and Overlay mode (8+24)

Folks,

I'm running a mga G450 in a P4 system with XFree86 4.2.0-8 (RedHat),
and I can't seem to get into overlay mode (8+24).

I have an old system with a Matrox Millenium II, and have no trouble
running overlay. This machine is also running 4.2.0-8 (RedHat), and
by adding the following to my XF86Config-4 file's Device section for
the mga driver:

Option "Overlay"

and disabling DRI, everything works great.

Adding the line above to my new system and disabling DRI caused the
server to fail to launch. I dug around on the web and found out that
for some un-documented reason it needs to read:

Option "Overlay" "on"

That wasn't in the docs, but it did allow X to come up. However,
xdpyinfo revealed that I really wasn't in 8+24 mode. I only have
the usual 4 24-plane visuals. On my old Millenium II system,
xdpyinfo reports 2 8-plane visuals and 2 24-plane visuals.

The Millenium II system's XFree86.0.log has the following lines that
seem to pertain to overlay mode:

...
(**) MGA(0): Option "Overlay" ""
(--) MGA(0): Chipset: "mga2164w"
(==) MGA(0): Using AGP 1x mode
(**) MGA(0): PseudoColor overlay enabled
...

My G450 system's XFree86.0.log has the following lines that looks
related:

...
(**) MGA(0): Option "Overlay" "on"
(--) MGA(0): Chipset: "mgag400"
(==) MGA(0): Using AGP 1x mode
(**) MGA(0): "on" is not a valid value for Option "Overlay"
...
...
(II) MGA(0): Using overlay video
...

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Is there any more info that
I can supply that will help in de-bugging this problem?

Thanks,

Russ
