Thank you Lionel . I tried already to test launching of the server ( KDE or GNOME ) but both cause the same hang up .

It might be something related with the Red Hat distribution , because this morning I installed the Suze 7.2 , and everything was all right .

I know it is not very conscientious to just try a complete reinstall without debugging in details , but my time and my knowledge is short . My problem was shared by others, as I could see in Internet, but I could never see the answers . I think it might be related with the "automatic configuration" of the Red Hat distribution , I tried with no success the reinstall from virgin hard disk of Red Hat version 8 and another install of version 7.1 . It is the first time I notice a difference the two distributions . My next step would have been the Debian distribution .
I saw one answer that said to recompile the Xserver , it could produce a binary closer to the machine ....

are you using startx to launch X?
are you sure you are starting somethink like gnome or kde in your .xinitrc or .Xclient (I am not
on my machine, I may have misspelled)?
