Fall AGU Meeting 2012, San Francisco, CA, 3-7 Dec 2012.

We are soliciting contributions to the following Fall AGU session:

V045. The Emissivity of Hot Lava: Experimental Advances, Theoretical Modeling, and Implications for Remote Sensing

The emissivity of hot lava surfaces as a function of wavelength and temperature is an important control on the cooling of newly-exposed lava.  Understanding emissivity variability is necessary to accurately interpret remote-sensing data of volcanic eruptions on Earth and the jovian satellite Io.  Trustworthy values of emissivity are particularly important for estimating eruption temperature where lava composition is unknown.  We solicit talks covering experiments to measure emissivity in the field and under laboratory conditions, theoretical studies, the modeling of lava cooling using these results, and the implications for interpretation of field and remote-sensing data.

Convenors:

Rachel J. Lee, University of Pittsburgh;

Ashley Davies, Jet Propulsion Laboratory-California Institute of Technology

The abstract submission deadline is 8 August 2012.  See: http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2012/
