Please,
I'm using kernel 2.6.11 (kanotix) and I downloaded and compiled the driver
for my webcam (sn-9c10x). I received this error message (open /dev/video0:
No such device) when I tried to use xawtv. According FAQ
(http://linux.bytesex.org/xawtv/faq3.html)
Q: xawtv doesn't start
Start the application from a terminal window. That way you'll see any
error messages printed by xawtv, which should help finding the problem.
Common errors are:
open /dev/video0: No such device
The device doesn't exist. Means there is no driver module for the
hardware loaded yet. Fix your hardware setup.
But I guess the problem is with v4l configuration, because there is an
alias in /etc/modules.conf like this:
alias /dev/video* /dev/v4l
...And there is not such file called /dev/v4l in my install.
Any help is welcome,
Carlos Menezes
