cx88_blackbird Unknown Symbol

I downloaded a snapshot and built it.

     video4linux-20041202-142354.tar.gz

My kernel is 2.6.9-r9.  Here's the output from uname:

     Linux gentoo 2.6.9-gentoo-r9 #3 SMP Mon Dec 6 11:55:41
     EST 2004 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU - S
     1266MHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

I'm trying to load the modules and get the following:

cx88_blackbird: Unknown symbol release_firmware

Can't seem to find anything relevant on Google.  What'd I miss?
