New S2API kernels like 2.6.25 have more or less supported the card out of
the box either via old driver API or via newer S2API. (Some kernel version
between those had some bug... but I am at the moment using this hard with
Mandriva 2009.1 (kernel 2.6.29) that works just fine.)

In addition of the driver, you need to install also the firmware.
(see http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000)

For daily use I use still vdr-1.6.0 that shows me the dvb-s channels by
using the old driver interfaces, but does not yet support dvb-s2.
I have however tested with vdr-1.7.4 that dvb-s2 channels works with it ok.
(VDR 1.7.0-1.7.3 did not work for me with hvr-4000)

I have not recently tested does the latest vdr developer versions support
now both the dvb-t and dvb-s/s2 simulteneously from the same card, but at
least with older vdr versions that S2API feature was not working with vdr.
(There are separate frontend for dvb-t and dvb-s/s2 under single adapter)
