fstrim(8)

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

 Hi,

I have merged a new command fstrim(8) from Lukas (also thanks to
Eric). The command is a wrapper for FITRIM ioctl (kernel >= 2.6.36,
supported for ext4 and planned for ext3 and gfs2 -- right?).

fstrim is used on a mounted filesystem to discard (or "trim") blocks
which are not in use by the filesystem. This is useful for solid-state
 drives (SSDs) and thinly-provisioned storage.
