Scott Fire Update
TUSAYAN, Ariz. – The Scott Fire
is 483 acres and nine miles southeast of Tusayan on the Kaibab National
Forest. The fire is being managed for resource objectives within a 2,000-acre
management area.
This fire is located in an area
where prescribed burning occurred in 2005 with the Scott Prescribed Fire.
The recent fire activity presents ideal conditions for managers to maintain
favorable low to moderate fire spread and to meet objectives such as improving
wildlife habitat and protecting cultural resources.
Currently, fire crews are working
along Forest Road 302 to prevent fire spread outside the established boundary.
Two engines and several operational personnel are working on the incident.
The Scott Fire may continue burning
in this area for weeks. Fire intensity will vary depending on weather,
fuels, and terrain. The fire is in Game Management Unit 9 but only affects
a minimal portion of the unit. Officials remind hunters and campers to
please aware of ongoing fire activity and personnel working in this location.
Currently, there are no closures
associated with the fire. Smoke will be visible during the day and will
remain in surrounding areas overnight.
