UPDATED: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Visit Seattle, Announce Efforts to Spur Job Creation through Regional Biofuel Production and Research
WASHINGTON, Sept. 27, 2011–TOMORROW, September 28, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will make a significant announcement in Seattle to advance the nation’s biofuels industry toward developing regional, renewable energy markets, generating rural jobs, and decreasing America’s dependence on foreign oil. Vilsack will also highlight how President Obama’s American Jobs Act will strengthen the economy in Washington state and the Pacific Northwest.
The purpose of the American Jobs Act is to put more people back to work, put more money in the pockets of working Americans, and do so without adding to the deficit. In Washington state, without adding a dime to the deficit, this Act will provide a tax cut for over 150,000 businesses, support the jobs of 8,500 educators, and immediately provide over 4,700 jobs to construction workers to help modernize public schools. A typical household in Washington state, with a median income of around $60,000, will receive a tax cut of around $1,860.
