USDA Under Secretary Kevin Concannon and Economic Research Service Expert
WASHINGTON, September 6, 2011 - TOMORROW, USDA Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon and an expert from USDA’s Economic Research Service will host a national media conference call to discuss the Household Food Security in the United States in 2010 report, to be released that day. The annual report provides the most recent statistics (2010) on food security among U.S. households, from the December 2010 food security survey. Food security is defined as consistent, dependable access to enough food for active, healthy living. Food-insecure households are those that at times have difficulty in accessing enough food. The report also contains statistics on how much U.S. households spent for food in 2010, and the extent to which food-insecure households participated in federal and community food assistance programs.
