I don't think the built-in flash memory of the Cowon D2 is supposed to have apartition table. Mine doesn't, and the filesystem directly on the device (ie/dev/sdc as opposed to /dev/sdc1) works perfectly for me. Also, I wouldn't recommend repartitioning and creating a new filesystem justlike that when it comes to a device that actually boots and has some systemfiles on that filesystem.
