Most spammers just send messages to millions of addresses.  Once a
list (such as this) is on a spammer's list, spam will arrive.

The simplest solution is to require subscribing to a mailing list.
Subscribing involves a message being sent to the new subscriber and a
response from the subscriber.  This involves human involvement and is
too time consuming for spammers.
