Alan,
I exchanged my USB enclosure for another one. The other one also had _exactly_the same problem. I got the same error messages so I'm not posting them againnow.
I then changed the jumper settings of the hard drive and everything workedperfect.
Just a question, Wasn't the usb-storage error messages misleading ?
