Batch image processing

Hey all 
 newbie here... I have a project that requires several processes to be
applied to each image, save out 8 different sizes and 2 different
aspect ratios on a entire directory / folder of images. 
 Im starting with a 1024 X 1024 72 dpi tiff and want to save out as
jpgs and gifs at 8 different image sizes for each file and use a pre
determined naming convention.  Can this be done in GIMP ? Photoshop
cant handle 24bit gifs can GIMP?
