Every statement in the posting is based upon accurate factual information, regardless of my personal experience with the products. I also suggested he do his tests, get the full data and decide for himself. Being aware of the weaknesses of a product before you buy it certainly is advantageous to the alternative. If you wish to challenge my statements, please indicate specifically which parts in the posting your believe are inaccurate. Doesn't have problems with minimal DOF? Doesn't exaggerate dust scratches dirt and grain pre-dICE? Doesn't band when used in standard scan mode? Doesn't take 3x as long in super fine mode? My motives are to allow this person to make the correct choice for his needs. I think with a product of this value, its nice not to make an error. I think I was actually kind, considering Nikon's history of problems with their scanners, and I think I was fair and balanced in pointing out the weaknesses in the SS120. When adding up the numbers the Polaroid SS120 is a superior scanner for all the reasons I mentioned and it costs less too. The only potential advantage to the Nikon LS800ED is for people who are dealing with damaged images where dICE can benefit them, and I even mentioned what circumstances would be involved there. In spite of this being a private letter which escaped to the public forum, there is very little I would change in its content or tone, with the exception of perhaps having been more "politically correct" to avoid exactly the reaction which you had. So now you know my secret, I even tell people the truth in private mail.
