PNG file format?

Is anyone out there using scanner control software (or digital camera
interface software!) that is capable of saving files in PNG format? Some
folks have promoted this encoding scheme as being superior to TIFF and
JPEG, but I'm curious whether it's actually supported by any commercial
applications.

I know Photoshop and probably most other editing applications support
PNG, but I'm interested in the capture end of things.
