4000dpi scanner, Firewire, and Interface

Thanks for the replies, Art and all. I guess I didn't
descrive my system completely. I'm currently using
WinME, on an older 266MHz PC with 384MB memory. I have
SCSI installed for external CDR and external hard
disk, use HP Photosmart S20 and HP 6300CXi scanners
with USB.
I'm primarily looking to get a higher res slide/film
neg scanner and know that I should be looking at
Firewire or SCSI probably. Microsoft has said they
won't do new USB 2.0 on anything but XP I believe.

So, I'll probably upgrade the PC at the end of the
year and will get XP Pro. Still, I'm not clear on
whether I should be looking at Polaroid, Nikon, or
other? 4000 scanner. I think I also, when I get the
new PC, go for the Epson 2450 flatbed scanner. Then
I'll be using whatever 400 scanner I get and the 2450
and sell the two I'm using now.

The SCSI interface I have now is at least 3 years old
so I don't think it's the fastest SCSI currently
available. I've learned that most 4000 scanners come
with or at least use Firewire but is Firewire faster
than the laetst SCSI?

Anyway, I'd like to have faster scans than I
currently have on the HP S20, which even at 2400 is
dreadfully slow.

thanks again for the help.
