Re: New to the list

Welcome!  I have not used the Minolta but I did use (and still have) a Nikon Coolscan III LS30 for a few years.  It was reliable and produced excellent results using the Nikon software.  However, it really impressed when I was using it with Vuescan.  That product seemed to get more horsepower out of the scanner and I was getting the best results I had ever had.  I only stopped using it because I wanted a medium format scanner.  Had I not had that requirement, I would have been happy to continue using the LS30.

I am sure others will give you an opinion on the Minolta.

Interesting that you are waiting for the Epson printers to come out.  The new 950 had an average write up in AP this week.  I quote "...it suffers from banding and slight colour bias, and fails to match the fast print times of the Canon".  The Canon to which they refer is the S900.  I am getting the Canon S9000 which AP now regards as the referene printer for colour photographic printing.

Subject: New to the list

Ciao,

this is the first time i'm posting here, so i want to greet you all.
then comes the question. i'm completely new to scanners, i just decided to buy my first film scanner. since it's my first time i don't want to invest too much in it, so i took a look at the used market. i found a Minolta Scan Dual II and Nikon coolscan III, for sale. both are like new, and still under warranty. the spec are very similar, even though the first is usb while the latter is scsi (and it comes with the card) and have ICE. I'm going to use this scanner for my slides and neg, and shortly after i will buy a photo printer, i'm waiting for new epson models to arrive on the market. so wich of the two should i prefer, and why? i TIA for any suggestion

Ciao
