For instance, we know that the blue channel is often the most problematic for noise, perhaps because either the filter is more dense, or the CCD is less sensitive to this color range. Might the line that typically is covered with the blue filter be "juiced" during some aspect of the design of the chip, to read higher, or whatever? Total conjecture...
