I question that word inert in this context, since all vegetable oil is organic and reactive on some level. But, I would not particularly want vegetable oil "inert" or otherwise in my lungs, in my scanner on it's mirrors or lens or light source, etc... Yes, might be better than some petroleum products, which I probably would want even less in my lungs or in my mouth, but I suspect vegetable oil can do its own bit of damage in the wrong place.
