This seems a lame excuse. Given that the scanner can output raw 12-bit-per-channel scans, they could scan the negatives in positive mode, and then do whatever they want with the data. There's nothing in the scanner that prevents it from scanning a negative in positive mode--I've done it by mistake. -- Ciao, Paul D.
