http://www.coloraid.de/ 1) Get the Wolf Faust color test target cheap (~$10). 2) Get the KWLee's iii.exe Iphoto profile generator at http://www.littlecms.com/iphoto/download.htm 3) Reset Epson scanner settings to default, no auto anything (press the RESET button on the software window). Scan target, generate ICC profile, install and poof, seems my Epson 1200S does a very good job at matching exact colors well now w/o any tweaks. Anything you scan on default settings will match pretty closely. Any tweaks to color/brightness/etc. you make either in the scanner software during scans or later affects the final image colors just as you see them change from baseline on screen. So, as long as you're monitor has been adjusted to match the scan pretty closely, you'll be able to eyeball everything w/o much hassle or expense. ====== I'm going the cheap end of color management and calibration, so for me, things done easily and cheap have worked well for me. Things are looking good here. eg. Nfren 15" LCD @ 8000K, 34/50 brightness/contrast with Adobe Gamma created profile at night at 6500K settings, P22 phosprs.. (8000K to better match the bright white of the Epson Photo Paper white I use and because LCD color response is just different from CRT's) Epson Photo 1200 printer on original ICC profile, ICM color matching. Epson 1200S scanner on Faust/KWLee ICC custom profile. Photoshop on sRGB space, printer controlled color management. Voila! Pretty much everything on screen matches what I get off my printer to a good degree of accuracy, and changes on screen are good enough to be reliable and accurate representations of what I'll get on the printer. Naturally, there's always that difference between transmissive and reflective color brightness, but put print next to monitor and they'll look the same with this point aside. Total cost, about $10 for the Faust profile and some hours of tweaking to get the LCD panel response to match the scanner scan. - Turn off HTML mail features. Keep quoted material short.
