Are you sure that only the first and last devices on the chain are
terminated?

I think Adaptec supplies a terminated cable, so the card is
terminated...therefore, you need only terminate the last device on the
chain, and shouldn't terminate anything between the card and the last
device.

Just to make things even happier...some terminators won't work with some
devices...oh, joy...so you could try a different terminator.

Scanners, in general, seem to do better as the last device on the chain, so
perhaps reconfiguring the chain would help.

And, be sure of your SCSI ID numbers...as you probably know, it isn't the ID
number but the position in the chain that determines first and last device.
