Greetings, I have an Epson 1680 that I have been using for some time now connected through USB to a Windows 98 (SE) computer. It connected OK except that with Silverfast apparently the USB was too slow. Therefore, I decided to go to SCSI connection. I already had a SCSI card (Adaptec 2903B) that I had been using with a Nikon LS-2000 with no problem so I thought it would be easy. Boy was I wrong. When I connected the 1680, powered it up, and started Windows, it would hang on the opening screen. I spent a long time on the phone with an Epson tech to no avail. Finally, I found on my own that if I turned the 1680 at the point it hung that Windows would continue starting. If I then turned on the Epson it was recognized and I could install the appropriate drivers. My problems were not over however. Every time I restart windows, it hangs if the 1680 is on. If I then turn it off and let it make it past that point in loading Windows before turning it on again it is OK. (If I wait too long before turning the 1680 on, then it is not recognized as being available.) In troubleshooting, I have tried: different cables, removing the Nikon from the chain, different SCSI ID's, updating drivers for SCSI (using 2902 since Adaptec apparently does not support the 2903), and assuring that the termination is set correctly on the Epson. None of these seem to make any difference. ANY help or suggestions anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim Allen - Turn off HTML mail features. Keep quoted material short.
