I did indeed open it up. The tape that was holding the grey window in place had become a little unglued. I pressed the tape back in place, then removed the fibers that were showing through the grey glass. I'm sure that was the problem, as the fibers were in the same area as the line. It's all fine now, I used a dusting glove inside and out as well as a blast of compressed gas and our scans are both spot and line free now and we are indeed smiling. My 16" Kreonite print processor is all apart in the basement, and since we are now using a 1270 and a 2000p I don't even like to go in the basement anymore. I think my RA4 days are over. I will probably resock and rebuild the Kreonite and sell it for a down stroke on an Epson 10,000 I forgot to mention the scanner is an Epson 1600 Expression. The calibration strip I was writing of, is actually typically on the underside of the top of the scanner (inside the scanner box) at the edge where the moving scanning bar homes. So basically, is is near that little glass window, but on the underside (you can't get to it without opening the scanner up). Anyway, as long as it is working, you're smiling. Possibly, if you manipulated the scanner's position, you might have dislodged some lint on the inside of the scanner, or you might even have created some static while cleaning the glass and that might have moved some lint internally. Who knows?
