I'm glad your scanner is working well now, but I'm not sure that the situation was fixed by what's been done, at least the intentional part of it, although I won't argue with success ;-) Typically, the glass slot you are speaking of, is indeed used to calibrate to the light source when using the transparency adapter, and I don't think it is used when the scanner is used in reflective mode. The calibration strip I was writing of, is actually typically on the underside of the top of the scanner (inside the scanner box) at the edge where the moving scanning bar homes. So basically, is is near that little glass window, but on the underside (you can't get to it without opening the scanner up). Anyway, as long as it is working, you're smiling. Possibly, if you manipulated the scanner's position, you might have dislodged some lint on the inside of the scanner, or you might even have created some static while cleaning the glass and that might have moved some lint internally. Who knows?
