"John Henry Galindo" <photo@mcn.org> asked: "Will someone please tell me the advantage(s) of working with 16 bit verses 8 bit files. Better yet, is there an online tutorial?" There is considerable debate about the value of 16-bit files for photographic images. You might check the notes on this subject from the Applied Color Theory discussion group at http://www.ledet.com/margulis/ACT_postings/ACT-8-bit-16-bit.html Theoretically, 16-bit color reduce banding when large color adjustments in images are required, but from a practical point, any differences may not be noticeable in finished images.
