DANGER!!!  DANGER!!!!  LOGIC FAILURE WARNING!!!

Instance 1.  Being two distinct technologies (not sciences) they have 
been separate from conception.  They are only linked in the one 
particular subset that your interests are a component of.

Instance 2.  What you see in only a subset of what everyone sees, not 
vice versa.  In other words there is a lot more to scanning than your 
narrow interests, and even your narrow interests are not limited to 
scanning.

All trolls have two arms, two legs and a coarse mouth.  You have two 
arms, two legs and a coarse mouth therefore you are a troll!
