Hi Lon: It might seem weird but - check the default printer you have installed. I found that a HP LaserJet PLC6 driver crashes PS6 when using some of the tools. But if I switched to the PS driver for the printer - no problems. If you have another printer hooked up - try changing the default driver. If nothing else install a Generic PS (PostScript) driver using the PS installer on the PS6 CD and set it to "print to file" and set this driver as your default printer. If the scanner works after switching printer drivers - your home free - sort of.
