Resolution: Nikon 8000/W2K Major Problems

Greetings List,

Thank you all for you suggestions on and off the list.

Wanted to follow up with the final resolution to my Nikon 8000ED problem. After 3 months of problems and several calls to Nikon Tech support to trace down the problem.

It turns out the problem is a defective 1394 firewire cable, I discovered this quite by accident, while doing an install of my 8000ED on a friend's computer. Twisting the cable caused failure, straightening out and wiggling the cable allowed the scanner to initialize.

Quite different than the previous 'Level II Tech' answer 'Well that's Windows for ya'

Now the BAD NEWS.

In the interim, while I wait for Nikon to determine that the cable is indeed defective (2 weeks), I get to purchase a new 1394 cable. Something I feel I shouldn't have to do after spending $3,000 on a scanner, especially on tight editorial deadlines.
