Subject: Re: VueScan to Photoshop This is from the help file for VueScan- Prefs tab This tab lets you set miscellaneous options that control the behavior of VueScan. External viewer If this option is set, cropped and processed images will be displayed using the viewer specified in the "Viewer" option. Viewer If the "External viewer" option is enabled, the specified program will be started with each cropped image upon completion of a scan. On Windows, if the viewer name is "default", the file association for this type of file will be used. You can also put command-line options after the name of the viewer (e.g. "vuepro32 /fillwindow" to display images without a window frame with VuePrint). If the name of the viewer has "%1" after it (e.g. vuepro32 "%1"), the file name will be substituted at that point. If you use the %1 argument on the command line, be sure to put double-quotes around it, or file names that have embedded spaces won't work. On Linux, the viewer name can have command-line options after it, and the file name will be appended to the end of the command-line before it's run. On Mac OS 8/9/X, if the viewer name is "default", the files will start in the same application that would start if you double-click on the files. Note that the file type and file creator for the .tif, .jpg, and .bmp files are determined by the settings in the "File Exchange" control panel on Mac OS 8/9. When PhotoShop is installed it sets the .jpg file association to itself. Sometimes other programs change this. But if PS is associated with .jpg then VueScan will send the scanned file to PS. Unchecking External Viewer will allow you to save the file and then open it with whatever you want. From the File Tab in VueScan you can select the file output type, .jpg or .tif. If .tif is associated with any particular program the same will happen, i.e., it will send the file to that program-which could also be PS. This is from Windows98 SE help file-other versions may vary as certainly will other operating systems. I do remember the procedure was different in Win95. And it may vary for ME and XP. That's what Help Files are for. Search for "association" or "file association", don't use the quotes. To change which program starts when you open a file In My Computer or Windows Explorer, on the View menu, click Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. In the list of file types, click the one you want to change. Click Edit. In Actions, click Open. Click Edit. In Application used to perform action, enter the program you want to use to open files that have this extension, and then click OK. Note The settings for selected file types are shown in File type details.
