I don't know if the LS8000 is better than the LS4000 re: the dof/focus
dilemma.  However, during my brief encounter with the LS8000, I did not
*once* get a sharp scan from a mounted slide.  The same slide scanned tack
sharp with the Polaroid SS4000.  OTOH, cut 6x6 frames were fine.

FWIW, the LS8000 does *not* ship with any glass carrier.  However, expensive
glass carriers are available as optional add-on purchases.

Which may very well force you to use the ICE feature to combat dust &
debris.  If you only scan 35mmm, cannot you do the same glass carrier thing
with the less expensive LS4000?

Have a look at the Minolta Scan Multi Pro.  4800 ppi...and I've heard that
the carriers are superior to the Nikon's.
