In article <FIEDJBDDEKPHGJMLCCCLOENJCKAA.chip@thelouie.org>, Chip Louie <chip@thelouie.org> writes > >Is there a way to get decent B&W prints from an inkjet that won't break the >bank? > I don't know how small your bank is, but there are suppliers of quadtone inks for some of the Epson inkjets which replace each of the colours with a different density of black ink. It might be cheaper to buy a used 4 colour Epson which does not use chipped cartridges and buy quadtone carts specifically for it, rather than splash out on the continuous ink systems required for the chipped machines. A special driver is provided so that a full range of greys can be reproduced without visible dithering. According to the users on the Epson list, the output is as good, perhaps better, than conventional chemical B&W prints. I haven't used them myself, but if you ask on the Epson list you will get as much advice as you need. Since someone asked about this on that list recently, I can provide you with these links as a starter though: http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/carbon-black.html http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/piezography-purchase.html http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/quadtone.html HTH :-) -- Kennedy Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed; A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed.
