David, I have the 4000 and did get a sheet in the box which showed minimum
system requirements which were very much higher when using the plug-in than
when using the stand alone application. In the case of the Roll Feed
adapter, they didn't even show a RAM allocation size for the plug-in, only
the stand alone (and it was something like 350 meg minimum). I would expect
the 8000 to be similar in this regard, although I don't know whether the
negative carrier selected changes it.

Nikon tech rep told me that in order to get the scan speeds advertised I
would have to have a beefier computer (a dual processor G4 Mac with 1.5 Gig
of RAM, or something in that league). I too, ask what the hell is it doing
in there that requires all that, and it's still slow? The great trick of
these Nikons is price point/vs. image quality - definitely not production
speed. Although, the convenience of the roll feed adapter for unattended
scanning (hopefully while you sleep) is very good with the 4000.

Best of Luck,
- Jim
