Hi Jim, I wish to correct the comment on Epson printers. Having owned six of them, and having repaired many dozens for others, this info needs to be better understood. Epson printers need to remain plugged in for their small CMOS or whatever it is to remain charged so the head calibration isn't lost and a few other bits of info aren't lost. Also, the printer should NEVER be turned off at the power bar, at least until the power button has been turned off and the heads finish their seating. They should NOT be left on (the power button is the ON position, with the LED lighted), for long periods without use (I'm speaking of a day or more) because this tends to help the heads to dry out from the heat generated from the electronics. If you will be using it intermittently during the day, you may wish to leave it on, as that might reduce the number of cleaning cycles the unit goes through (saving ink), but if the unit will not be used for a day or more, you should turn it off at the power button. Once the printer head has finished its movements and noises, it could be turned off at a power bar, or unplugged, but it will eventually lose its calibration settings and lose count of ink cleaning sequences. The newer ones "might" even lose the ink monitoring (I don't know for sure, they use a chip in the cartridge, and I don't have any of those printers).
