I'll argue the opposite case here, gary. I bought and returned two nVidia cards in the last several weeks. In both cases, the chart on the box said 1600 x 1200 resolution was possible, within limits of the monitor, natch. The monitor can handle it. That's a fact. Now, it doesn't matter if I use Microsoft's monitor-descriptor INF for the PT-775, or if I use Viewsonic's latest. In either case, and on both nVidia cards, the nVidia drivers doggedly refused my attempts to run at 1600 x 1200. By contrast, Matrox's drivers offer very thorough control over resolution and refresh rates, including timing control for each mode (v/h size, v/h centering.) As I've mentioned -- their latest non-certified driver for the G-200 is quite stable (on my machine) and will let me push the res well beyond 1600 x 1200. Your gripe was (IIRC) 3D and GL performance, which just happens to be irrelevant to me. I also recall that my G-200 card would bring down the computer on the WinTune OpenGL test. I still think of Matrox mostly as the last, best card for those of stuck in the 2D world. rafe b. - Turn off HTML mail features. Keep quoted material short.
