That is true for the NikonScan 3.1, and for the Epson 
1640SU.  It is not true for the SprintScan 35+, using 
either the TWAIN driver or Insight.

NEWay, all three scanners are happy now, and I've seen 
no ill effects from installing the WNASPI32 stuff.
