How to install source rpm's on redhat 9

Hello. I'm a newbie & although I have managed to upgrade my kernel from
source, they always seem to come with very detailed instructions.

I would like to install this program
(http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html) on my redhat 9 system.
The source file is at apps kde. I got as far as getting the directory
knetmonapplet-0.9 into /usr/src/redhat/BUILD. I ran the configure &
make & make install as root. Just as I thought, it did not work or I do
not know where the install directory for KDE is. I just let it use the
default of /usr/local/kde. Any light that anyone could shed on this
problem would be most appreciated.
