Syncing password with a NT Domain | |

With RedHat 8.0 I now have the option of checking password via SMB. I've activated this function (during Install) and have the following questions: 1) Does it sync the /etc/passwd (ok, /etc/shadow) when it succeeds? 2) It doesn't always work. I suspect that its because the user has to be assigned an initial password before SMB checking will work. Is this correct? 3) If I set up a NIS server on this box, will the NIS passwords be checked via SMB? If there's some reference I that goes into detail available I'd be happy to check, but my searches came back with too much junk to be useful.
