Fonts/gnome question

Hi. I'm pretty much up to date with rawhide at the moment after
installing tons of things yesterday. One problem I noticed is that
gdm wouldn't start (or rather, would start and then quickly die).
That's an annoying one to try to track down, but I finally realized
that some other gnome applications weren't working either. For
example:

% gnome-terminal

** (gnome-terminal:11446): WARNING **: Failed to load Xft font pattern "Sans-10:slant=0:weight=100", falling back to default font.

** (gnome-terminal:11446): WARNING **: Failed to load default Xft font.
No fonts found; this probably means that the fontconfig
library is not correctly configured. You may need to
edit the fonts.conf configuration file. More information
about fontconfig can be found in the fontconfig(3) manual
page and on http://fontconfig.org

Does anyone know what the problem could be? It must've started just
in the last few days. I've installed all the font-related packages,
and the /etc/font files look okay. Then again, I don't fully
understand the new way of managing fonts....

This is driving me crazy, so if anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate
it!

Thanks,
Reid
