Hello! I am not an expert, but I would like to give my $0.02 in this: One possible way to achive remote power off is like this: Lets assume you have server A and server B. UPS sends power off signal to server A. Now you want to power off server B also. Create a user on server B, say with name "reboot" The default shell - i.e. the program it will execute on login - will be a script. No password. In this script you can put shutsys poweroff (the shutdown commands). Now on Server A, when it goes down, it will execute a script - say netshut - in which there will be a command rlogin serverB -l reboot I agree that this description is not accurate in all aspects, but this is just an outline of the plan.
