Console logins are no longer being recorded in /var/log/wtmp

We noticed this month that console logins are no longer being entered in wtmp. Last month we did have problems with X starting on this computer's console. We did manage
to solve that problem, but I do not remember the steps that we used.

Any ideas?

Thanks
